Smells Good To You
2026
acrylic on canvas
28 x 24

An expensive perfume bottle is set against roiling black smoke, evoking wildfire or war. Its polished surface and luminous clarity stand in stark contrast to the atmosphere of destruction behind it.
A trompe l’oeil gilt-wood frame—painted directly onto the canvas—suggests historical importance and elevated value, echoing the tradition of luxury still life. The illusion sanctifies the object even as the world appears to burn.
The title poses a pointed question: can refinement and consumption mask the scent of catastrophe?
